Custom BMW Calibration

Custom calibration is the path for a BMW that no stage number describes: an upgraded or hybrid turbo, supplementary port injection, a mixed or unusual fuel, aggressive cams or head work, or simply a combination of parts nobody has a shelf file for. Rather than scaling an existing map, the boost model, torque model and fuel targets are rebuilt around measured behaviour on your car.

Catalogue first, then quoted.

Upgraded-turbo setups the catalogue lists are priced on each platform page. A build outside those setups is quoted from the hardware list and fuel, before anything is written.

Talk to a tuner

What this includes.

  • Boost control rebuilt for hardware the factory DME has no model for
  • Torque and load model re-referenced to real airflow rather than the factory turbo
  • Fuel system assessed first, with targets written under what it actually sustains
  • A staged ramp to target, each step verified in your logs before the next
  • A direct line to the person writing the file, not a ticket queue

What we need from you.

  • A complete and truthful hardware list, including anything fitted second-hand or unknown
  • A finished, leak-free install — calibration cannot compensate for a boost leak or a failing sensor
  • Honest fuel-system information: pump, injectors, and any port injection
  • Patience for multiple revision rounds. A build like this converges in steps, not in one file

How it runs.

  1. 01

    Scope the build

Before anything is written we establish what the hardware can actually support and whether the combination makes sense. This is the stage where we will tell you plainly if the fuel system, not the turbo, is going to be the thing that caps the build.

  2. 02

    Conservative first file

The opening calibration is deliberately well short of the target. Its job is to run safely and produce readable data, not to impress.

  3. 03

    Ramp in verified steps

Boost and timing come up incrementally. Each step is checked against knock correction, rail pressure, wastegate behaviour and charge-air temperature before the next one is written.

  4. 04

    Settle and document

The build lands where the hardware allows, and you get a written account of what limits it — so the next upgrade is an informed decision rather than a guess.

More answers
What counts as a custom calibration rather than a stage tune?
Anything where the hardware changes the shape of the problem rather than its scale. A downpipe and an intercooler are still within the factory turbo's model. A different turbine, a different fuel system, port injection, or cams are not — those need the boost and torque models rebuilt rather than re-scaled, which is a different job.
How many revisions does a custom build take?
More than a stock-turbo car, and the number depends on the build and on how quickly you can return clean logs. An upgraded-turbo car on ethanol is a multi-round process by design — each step is verified before the next, because the whole point is not to find the limit by exceeding it.
Can you tune a BMW with parts you have not seen before?
Usually, yes — what matters is what the hardware does, and the logs describe that regardless of who made it. Where we will be cautious is with parts whose specification is unknown or unverifiable, because a target set on a guess about a compressor or an injector is not a target, it is a hope.
What if my build cannot reach the number I want?
We will tell you, and tell you which component is the constraint. That is more useful than a calibration written to a target the hardware cannot support, which is how engines get hurt on a fuel system that was never going to keep up.
