How does remote BMW tuning work?
You flash a base calibration with supported software such as MHD or bootmod3, data log your car, and send the logs back. We review the data, adjust the calibration, and return a revision. That loop repeats until the car is clean and on target for your hardware and fuel. The entire process is handled remotely and works worldwide.
Do I need a dyno for a custom tune?
No. The calibration is built from your data logs. You flash a base map, capture full-throttle and part-throttle pulls on the channels we ask for, and the tune is refined from that data. A dyno can complement logging but is not required.
Is remote tuning safe?
It is safety-first. The first map is deliberately conservative. Timing and boost are added only after your logs confirm healthy air-fuel ratios, ignition timing, knock activity, and fuel pressure. The calibration follows the data, not a target number on a screen.
Where is Synergy BMW Tuning based, and is in-person service available?
Synergy BMW Tuning is based in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Remote calibration is available worldwide. In-person and mobile diagnostic and tuning-related services are available only in the Pittsburgh, PA area.
How long does the process take?
Base maps are typically delivered within about 24 hours of receiving your logs and vehicle information, and revisions are usually handled within the same business day. Rush delivery of the initial map in under four hours is available as an add-on.
How do I get started?
Submit a quote with your chassis, engine platform, full modification list, and target fuel. We confirm the calibration path and next steps, then send your base map. You can also reach us at synergybmwtuning@gmail.com.
What do I need to have ready before I buy?
Your engine platform and fuel choice, your complete mod list (intake, downpipe, fueling, turbo setup), a supported flash tool, stable battery voltage for flashing, and somewhere safe and legal to log.
Can you help diagnose issues before tuning?
Yes. Misfires, boost leaks, fueling problems, and heat-related consistency issues should be resolved before final calibration. A data log review can flag these before you buy a tune.
Platforms & software
What BMW platforms do you calibrate?
N13, N20, N54, N55 (E and F series), S55, B58 (Gen 1 and Gen 2), S58, and S63. Each platform has dedicated paths for stock turbo, hybrid turbo, single turbo, and flex-fuel configurations.
What tuning software do you work with?
MHD and bootmod3 (BM3) are the primary flashing tools, with xHP for transmission (TCU) calibration. Other OBD flash tools may be supported depending on the platform. If you run a different tool, contact us before ordering.
Do you also tune the transmission (TCU)?
Yes. TCU calibration is available for supported ZF 8HP and DCT gearboxes. It raises transmission torque limits to match the engine tune and sharpens shift, lock-up, and launch behavior.
Can you tune a car outside the United States?
Yes. Remote calibration works worldwide. Fuel quality, hardware, and clean logging matter far more than location. Confirm your local pump octane or ethanol content so the calibration targets are set correctly.
Do you work on cars with a tune bought elsewhere?
A data log review is available for any car on any tune, including files purchased elsewhere. A full custom calibration starts from a Synergy BMW Tuning base map for your platform.
Pricing
What does a calibration cost?
A remote base calibration runs $250–$600 depending on platform and turbo configuration. Stock-turbo calibrations run $250–$500, hybrid turbo $300–$550, and big single turbo $400–$600. Additional fuel maps are $150–$300. Log-based revisions are included.
Is the tune a one-time payment?
Yes. The base calibration is a one-time payment, and the revisions to dial it in are part of that price. A later hardware change or fuel switch may need a paid revision.
Are revisions included?
Yes. Reading your logs and sending updated calibrations until the car is clean and on target is part of the process, not an upsell. Most builds settle within a few log rounds.
What add-ons are available?
Optional extras include an additional fuel map ($150–$300) to support another fuel type such as 91, 93, or E50, a hybrid turbo base map for the N54 ($150), and rush delivery of the initial map in under four hours ($100).
Data logging & revisions
What should I log?
Boost target versus actual and wastegate/VVT duty, air-fuel ratio across the rev range, ignition timing and knock/misfire counts, fuel system pressures (HPFP, and LPFP or port where applicable), intake air and coolant temperatures, and throttle position and load to confirm full-throttle pulls.
What makes a good pull log?
A smooth full-throttle ramp from lower RPM to near redline in one consistent gear, with no wheelspin and no mid-pull shifts, captured on the channels your tuner provides. Log the same road, gear, and similar temperatures each time, and only log where it is legal and safe.
What gear should I log in?
Usually a single consistent gear, often 3rd or 4th depending on the platform and local speed limits. Consistency between logs matters more than the specific gear.
What if my logs show timing corrections?
Timing corrections can come from fuel quality, high intake air temperature, worn plugs or coils, or targets that are too aggressive. We look for the pattern across the log and revise the calibration accordingly.
How many revisions will my build need?
It depends on hardware and log quality. A healthy setup with clean logs is usually dialed within a few rounds. Big turbo and high-ethanol builds can take longer to perfect.
Can I upload a log for a quick check myself?
The BMW Data Log Analyzer on this site screens a CSV or tab-delimited pull log for RPM, boost, throttle, timing, and intake air temperature. It is an estimate and screening aid, not a chassis-dyno measurement or a replacement for tuner review.
